C Bangs’ work investigates frontier science combined with symbolist figuration. Archetypes of the Earth and cosmological elements are depicted from an ecological feminist perspective. The visual expression of scientific esoteric ideas continues to be what I explore in my work. For years I incorporated quantum equations by Dr. Evan Harris Walker as sacred writing. These equations function as design elements and refer to the interconnectivity of everything and the relationship of time to space. This was the result of our thirteen-year dialog of how the quantum world is a very different dimension than is our level of reality and how quantum physics influences our level of reality through the interconnection of everything.
The premise of my work is that we are part of the Earth and all the elements of our bodies at one time were formed within a star; we contain both systems within us. My art in a wide variety of mediums is informed by mythology and the hope for human evolution.
Ongoing conversations with my husband, Dr. Gregory Matloff, about the laws of physics and our resulting collaboration in nine books on astronomy and astronautics continue to inspire my work. The collaborative atmosphere of our relationship with has impacted the nature and future direction of our work. The ongoing conversations about the laws of physics that underlie the universe serve as a passionate inspiration.
C Bangs art investigates frontier science combined with symbolist figuration from an ecological feminist point of view. Her work is included in public and private collections as well as in books and journals. Public Collections include the Library of Congress, NASA’s Marshall Spaceflight Center, New York City College of Technology, Pratt Institute, Cornell University and Pace University. I Am the Cosmos exhibition at the New Jersey State Museum in Trenton from December 4, 2010 through May 29, 2011 included her work, Raw Materials from Space and the Orbital Steam Locomotive. Her art has been included in seven books and two peer- reviewed journal articles, several magazine articles and art catalogs. Merging art and science, she worked for three summers as a NASA Faculty Fellow; under a NASA grant she investigated holographic interstellar probe message plaques. Her most recent book collaboration with Greg Matloff, Biosphere Extension: Solar System Resources for the Earth was recently collected by the Brooklyn Museum for their artist-book collection.
Since 1995 she has included quantum equations and diagrams by quantum consciousness physicist, Dr. Evan Harris Walker in her paintings. In 1991 she met noted quantum physicist, Dr. Evan Harris Walker. They exchanged ideas on the reality or non-reality of “space-time” and on his innovative theories concerning the relationship between quantum mechanics and consciousness that lasted until his death in 2006. These equations function as design elements and refer to the interconnectivity of everything and the relationship of time to space.
