SETI: an exploration of scale with Scott GuerinARtsci

SETI (the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) is increasingly in the news given recent exoplanet discoveries, the large object Oumuamua which passed through our solar system from interstellar space, and the Breakthrough projects which listen and look for evidence of technological civilizations. Guerin will present and discuss a series of 3D virtual models and animations which he has developed to explore the Fermi Paradox, possible communication strategies, and the staggering scale of interstellar and intergalactic space.

Scott Guerin’s career as an interpretive exhibition designer and master planner for science and history museums include his role as lead designer for Philadelphia History Museum at Atwater-Kent, the National Museum of Australia, The USS Monitor Center, Petrosains in Kuala Lumpur, and early in his career, the Nixon Presidential Library. His scientific interests include co-authorship of an article in the Centauri Dreams blog, Citizen SETI (https://www.centauri-dreams.org/?p=36802) and more recently took him to the Tennessee Valley Interstellar Workshop last October where he facilitated a group that considered the development of a traveling SETI Science exhibit.
