A series of four sequential plays written by Alyson Pou to coincide with the themes of CENTRAL BOOKING 2010 exhibitions on the topics of Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Galileo’s Finger and the Mysterious Lenticular Glass
Part 1
An astronomically inspired performance about Alessandra, the young apprentice who might have made the lenses for Galileo’s famous telescope and Marietta a passionate collector in search of her lens making secrets.

Alessandra’s Occhiolino and the Book of Gold
Part 2
Marietta’s search for the mysterious 17th century lens-maker takes her to Venice where she must gain access to the archives of a powerful family. While Alessandra Mazzolini, the young apprentice and guild spy in Padua, is pulled ever deeper into Galileo’s world of Natural Philosophers and the dangerous dance between church and state.

Alyson Pou, is a visual and performing artist. She has performed, exhibited, and lectured at numerous museums, galleries, art centers and colleges around the country. She is the recipient of the New York Dance and Performance Award (aka The Bessie Award) in the category of Choreographer/Creator. Fellowships include The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, The American Antiquarian Society, Voice & Vision Theater Playwright’s Residency. Grants include Art Matters, Inc., Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance Art, LMCC Swing Space Program, NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs, National Endowment for the Arts.

Jessica Bauman is a theater and film director and teaching artist. Her most recent project is “Arden/Everywhere,” a reimagining of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” as a story about refugees, which she directed with a cast of professional actors and non-professionals from the refugee and immigrant communities. She is a co-creator of WordPlay Shakespeare, a revolutionary way to read Shakespeare combining text and video. Her theatrical work has been seen at New Georges, the Spoleto Festival, Juilliard, Soho Rep, HERE, 3LD and many other venues. She previously directed Alyson’s one-woman show (with puppets) called “A Slight Headache.” She is thrilled to be collaborating with Alyson again to celebrate CENTRAL BOOKING.
