41.7° N, 74.7° W, 2024

41.7° N, 74.7° W is a continuation of My Inner Frankenstein series, which originated during the COVID lockdown. In the spring of 2020, our family of three—my husband, our 18-year-old son, and myself—spent months in isolation in a rural village in Upstate New York. The faces and body parts used in the paper dolls are representations of my husband, my son, and myself. The animals included in the artwork are inspired by Russian folklore, particularly the bear, an anthropomorphic deity known as Misha (Mikhail), which shares a name with my husband.

41.7° N, 74.7° W represents the location of our family home in upstate New York, which has been in the possession of our small immigrant family for 23 years. It’s not only a tangible place but also a magical one where time seems to stand still, and strange creatures inhabit its vast fields, woods, and lake.
