“Delta” is a book that uses the symbol Δ to represent a change or difference in mathematics and science, as well as Lower Egypt’s Nile River delta. This delta is at risk of being submerged due to rising sea levels, putting many of its cities in danger. The book highlights this global crisis and features a descriptive poem for the Nile Delta, as well as images of sea monsters from Olaus Magnus’ The Carta Marina. The contrast between the poem and sea monsters emphasizes the seriousness of the issue, and the book is enclosed in a box with transparent sides displaying old maps of the Nile Delta and Alexandria port.
Leather bound book, enclosed in a cloth-covered box with plexiglass sides. Leather wrappings connected to brass cut pieces, laser-cut Fabriano paper, inkjet printed text, linen thread, book board, museum board, paper, and Coptic binding. Signed, numbered, and dated by the artist.
