Inspired by the artist’s residency at Brooklyn Botanic Garden as part of the Plant Cure project, this watercolor is a close-up, enlarged view, painted by hand from a digital microscope detail. It is on a full sheet of Arches 300 lb. watercolor paper with full deckles, one of a series of four related images. Of the various pelargonium plants studied for the Plant Cure project, Pelargonium sidoides is of particular interest due to its original use as a traditional medicine in South Africa, which has been developed for modern allopathic respiratory treatment.
