My hand is too far to touch, 2019

How do I sense the depth of a piece of paper, which has a front and back? How do you see the physical and immaterial depth of a painting?  Like when opening a greeting card, opening a folded paper presents the feeling of welcome and intimacy.  I like the bodily engagement of the welcoming and, through the imaginative and spontaneous painting process, wanted to explore the materiality of the paper and the paint materials.  I consider time as another dimension derived from the accumulation of material and processes such as coloring, dripping, drawing, rubbing, etc.—which helps to feel the painting’s presence.

Acrylic, Semi ink, graphite, ballpoint pen and felt tip pen on the front and back of the paper.
