Small Model of Mexican Ruin is inspired by family heritage, as well as by Aztec and Mayan sculptures that magically fuse animal, plant, and human. The poem is from the artist’s second book, Raft of Flame, winner of the Lake Merritt Poetry Contest (Omnidawn, 2020).
